Last year we got three bee hives. This year we added 3 more for a total of six. The kids are having a great time with it as well as their dad. This is the process for getting bees and taking care of them. The honey is sooooo good! Last year the kids had a farmers market and did rather well for themselves. With the money they made they were able to buy their own hive.
The bees traveled all the way from California in the horse trailer. From here we picked them up and brought them to our house.William is feeding the bees by painting on sugar water. It was amazing how putting the sugar water on would calm the bees down and stop a little of the humming. David, Spencer, friend Samantha, Abigail, and Grammy.
All suited up for the step of releasing the bees into their hives.
Here the bees are sticking pretty close to the queen. She is in a small container. We will hook her on a frame in the hive still in the container and release her into the hive a day later. The bees will know this is their hive because of the queen.

Releasing all the bees into the hive.
Here you can see what we call a frame. The comb is in the yellow and what the bees will
use to store their honey in. by the end of the year our hope is they will all be full and then
recapped by the bees with a layer of wax.
Even Trey was interested in the bees. She did get stung once that day. As well as David.
OUCH!!!!

I thought you went to a Bee's baseball game from the title?! Where did you learn so much about bees? That is really cool! We had a hive when I was little but I wasn't allowed near it. Very cool!!
