BYU Science Fair

David was so excited to go to BYU for the Science Fair. He went all decked out in all his BYU attire.
There were about 260 or so projects from all over Utah County.
It was an all day event. David was in heaven especially after the judging they had some student activities for the kids to participate in. David stood in line for the Air Force ROTC fight simulator. It took most of two hours but way worth it when he shot a plane down and got a ROTC t-shirt! He was thrilled!!!!! He was living his dream. We wants to join the Air Force and possibly the ROTC. He couldn't have had a better day!
We headed across campus for the awards and they announced,
"The winner for the Presentation Award goes to David Bretey III."
He even got a $20 check. Pretty awesome! I thought the project looked pretty sharp and I guess others did too. Good Job Bro! You did good work and it turned out to be so worth all the work and stress.
Sad news is he didn't win the Lego contest, but that is okay. We gave it a good attempt.

Skiing

David took the big kids skiing to the Canyons ski resort. They had a great time! I was a little worried about David's knee, but he seemed to do okay. It is nice they were able to go since David and Abi both have their Ski Utah passes. With the passes they get some free passes to all the ski resorts. They have another trip planned and Aunt Michelle and Grandpa Bretey are coming. David got a great deals on some passes, so it should be a fun time for all.

These videos are fun! David thought it was pretty cool to do the ski jump. Abi's legs were sore after a day of snowplowing, it probably only helps her gymnastics though.

Beginning of Spring Competition Season

Abi has begun her Spring competition season. She is quite excited. She loves to compete! She did pretty good she got 4th over all in her age group.
One of the funnest parts was that some of her Palmer cousins came to see her compete. She was so excited that they came.
One more shot with the Palmers.
We had a great time with you guys.
Thanks for coming and come back and see us soon!!

Story Telling

I went to Spencer's class to read stories. We did something a little different and the kids loved it!!!!!! It was pretty fun. They got to be the actual story. I got some masks from Story Time Felts and finally put them to good use. The 3 Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf
Little Red Riding Hood
Goldilocks and The 3 Bears.
And The Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly
Every child got to participate in one of the stories. They had a great time!
The story time felt lady suggested to attach the mask to childrens sunglasses just pop the lenses out. It think it was a great idea! I just hot glued them on.
And then they become the coolest glasses ever!

Mini Burgers

The kids great grandma Evelyn made these cute little hamburgers and sent them in a package. She is quite a fun grandma with her great grand kids in mind all the time. She is always thinking of little things to send and they totally love every package she sends. She made them out of vanilla waffers with a peppermint patty in the center with red and yellow frosting on either side of that and some honey to stick the sesame seeds on top.
Cute idea!!!! Thanks Grandma Evelyn! We all thought they were great!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my little leprechaun

Spencer has been so excited about St. Patrick's day. He didn't have a shirt that was completely green so he thought we needed to go buy him one. Here is our Wal-Mart special. He loves it! It reads "I ate his homework." He came home lookin' like a leprechaun. He was so proud.

A leprechaun had been secretly visiting his class and he had so much fun with that!! He would write notes and the leprechaun would write little notes back. The leprechaun even remembered William from last year since they are in the same kindergarten class. They were both so excited about that.

Flash Fox

William loved playing Junior Jazz. He is really fun to watch. One of the last games Flash Fox was there visiting. The kids thought that was pretty cool. It is funny what a mascot and bring to the event. He gave William a Special Events stamp right on his fore head.
William didn't seem bothered at all about that.
Spencer got the on the shoulder pose and thought that was great!
Along with Abi, but somehow the camera was on video, so you get to watch her 2 second shot.

School Days

Abi had a wax museum at school. She was Walt Disney. She did a great job. They had to dress up like the person and memorize a few quotes from them.
100's day for William and Spencer. I know this was for ever ago, but I still wanted to post them.

William drew a shark and put Swedish Fish all over. The shark is saying "I'm hungry". It was all is own idea.

Spencer made a 100's day hat at school. He lost a few pieces on the way home, but it was still so cute!

VOTE FOR #192

Hey there, David III entered a Legos contest on KNRS 570. We need everyones help to win. If you go to this site and vote for #192 that would be a big help. David would be so happy to win. There is only one vote per computer, so we need your help. Thanks so much!
http://www.570knrs.com/pages/sandiego/
We thought we were supposed to bring a Lego item already built. We didn't know that there were going to be legos there. It is a little hard to see, but it is a motorcycle trailer and ramp. I will try to get some better pictures and posts them. Thanks for your help. GO DAVID!

Japan

Japan is an interesting place. It is the country of big harmony. Our sensei (teacher) taught us first day that if we we wanted to have a good trip we had to understand that Japanese care about haromony. Everything needs to blend and fit together. Obviously the puts us Americans at a disadvantage because we...well we don't fit it. Being extra polite is important--learning to say good morning, thank you and doing a lot of bowing is a step toward rebuilding the harmony.

The trip has been to look at companies that are successfully applying lean methods. In any case we have have visited 3 great companies in the last 3 day Omoron, Toyota and Mitsubishi. Anyway at the risk of boring you and the kids here are a few highlights:

Omron is really an amazing company with an amazing history comitted to building a better community. This plant employees most handicap people. Despite economic pressure to manufacture in China where the labor is cheaper, Omron has shown that they can be a profitable manufacturer of electronics while still providing people with disabilities a place to work. The sign here reads, "Not a charity but a chance". A tour through there facility would amaze anyone.

Toyota motor company headquarters is located in Toyota City. It is not uncommon for large companies in Japan to actually own the city. The company promises some ecenomic stability in exchange for some political clout to develop a city that supports their opperation as needed. It seems to work.

Toyota is a lot of robots in their manufacturing so it is not suprising to see some of the innovations on display at the Toyota museum.
I caught the tale end of this robot playing the trumpet. It sounded really good... I wish I actually would have got the robot playing instead just waving.

This futuristic car is quite amazing. When positioned down it has a low center of gravity and can travel very fast. When upright is has the maneuverability of a wheel chair.

Science Fair

David had his District Science Fair tonight. He did his project on our honey bees. It was very good and we all learned a lot and we will all be better bee farmers for it. His projected looked pretty sharp. Or at least I thought! And once again the cricut came through for us! (It is a cool machine!)
And the results are .......... he gets to go on to the next round! YAY!!!!! He was so excited!
These aren't the best pictures, but David has the good camera in Japan, so we are using Abi's camera. Anyway David was a Fair Finalist and will go on to the State Science Fair at BYU!
Too COOL! David walking off the stage. Good job Abi for getting one closer!
Good Job David! The hard work pays off. We are proud of you and your accomplishments.

Bald Eagle close to Home

One day in late January we saw a Bald Eagle not too far from our house. It was so neat. We went back a few hours later and it was still there. So we were able to get a few pictures. Not the best being we were a ways away. It was so neat to see it spread it's wings and fly. So cool! Not every day you see an eagle especially that close to home. It was close to the middle school.
